The contrast between natural and man-made elements on the exterior façade of the Westhill School in Syracuse, NY, makes for a striking display. Black Locust Lumber provided FSC certified, #1 grade material for the custom ship lap siding that wraps the structure designed by Ashley McGrawArchitects.
Horizontal portions of Black Locust along the windows act as a visual aid that guides viewers towards the main entryway. Vertical siding on the cantilevered portion of the structure also acts as a visual aid, reinforcing the entryway as the hierarchical component.
The Black Locust was recently installed, and will soon weather into a beautiful silvery-gray patina. Once the material greys, the Black Locust and brick will form a more cohesive entity. Check back in a few months to see updated photographs of the Westhill School once the patina has developed.

Triage of Logs at CitiLog Newark

Yesterday we received 25 truckloads of logs at CitiLog Newark! The photographs below show the vast amount of material we have on our site. Once the logs are dropped off they are separated by length. The dunnage and waste material is also separated and will be used in our green power station.

Black Locust Decorative Fence

Black Locust Lumber, CitiLog's sister company, provided the Premium Graded Black Locust fence that was installed at this Private Residence in Pennsylvania. Black Locust is an ideal material choice for fencing because of its natural rot resistance. It will maintain its durability even when placed in the ground.

As Black Locust weathers it will begin to develop a silvery-gray patina. This color occurs as Black Locust is exposed to elements such as UV rays, rain, snow, and oxygen. Soon, this fence will begin to develop this beautiful gray color.

Black Locust Lumber

CitiLog's sister company, Black Locust Lumber, is the leader in creating finished Black Locust wood products such as decking, fencing, siding, pergolas, and more. The natural rot resistance and durability of Black Locust makes it a perfect material choice for outdoor applications. Black Locust is low maintenance and can last more than fifty years untreated.

At Black Locust Lumber we have our own mill and expert craftsmen that convert raw wood into a unique variety of finished wood products. We maintain a continuous supply of Black Locust- something few other suppliers can produce.

Below are some photos of our Premium Grade Black Locust installed at private residence. The lumber was custom milled and finished to create a garden wall, siding, and bench.

Recovering After the Storm

After a long and interesting week since Hurricane Sandy, CitiLog Newark is still cleaning up like many others in the area. Some of our shipping containers fell over from the high winds and today we rented a crane to pick them back up again. However, none of this stopped us from working! The Newark Sawmill only lost 1 day of work due to the storm, and even stayed open on Saturday to receive logs.

Trucks were lining up on the street to drop off loads of logs. Some logs even arrived in unconventional ways, such as dump trucks. When a tree falls, CitiLog hears it!

With the crane that picked up our knocked over shipping containers, our teammates were able to make more progress on our biomass power unit.

Hurricane Sandy

Hope everyone is safe and sound after Hurricane Sandy. The CitiLog Newark Sawmill sustained minimal damage and the office in Pittstown is still without power, but we are all doing well!

CitiLog Newark has received several large loads of logs this week. Many trees have come down from storm damage and are causing hazards in surrounding towns. All downed trees can be taken to CitiLog Newark! We are receiving logs at no charge! For more information, feel free to call us (908)-735-8871.

More Progress on the Power Unit

Yesterday, the CitiLog Newark team made more progress installing the power unit at the Newark sawmill. They worked hard putting refractory blocks in with chain blocks.

Once the power unit is complete our site will be 100% self-sufficient; producing our own electricity, heating, and eventually cooling.
Stay tuned! More updates to come!
